Trailer Hitch and Cargo Carrier Compatibility with a 2011 Toyota Sienna

I am considering getting a trailer hitch and cargo carrier for my 2011 Toyota Sienna but have two questions. First, will a trailer hitch on this car protrude past the bumper? In other words, will it be a knee/shin knocker? Second, for a car that does not have a lot of ground clearance like this one, is a 24inch wide cargo carrier, such as the 63153, too wide? Should I go with a 20inch carrier instead? Also, I dont plan to do any towing and the carrier will be for occasional use on the highway. My driveway is gravel and has a couple of dips in it. Thanks.

The receiver from a trailer hitch will not protrude past the bumper on your 2011 Toyota Sienna. We have installed the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch, # C13105, on a 2011 Toyota Sienna and found that the trailer hitch will be recessed under the edge of the bumper 5-1/4 inches. I have attached a photo of what the trailer hitch will look like when installed on your vehicle.

I have also attached the installation instructions and installation video of the Curt trailer hitch for you to check out.

As far as ground clearance goes, you will have 11 inches from the top of the trailer hitch receiver to the ground. The Pro Series Cargo Carrier, # 63153, that you referenced has a rise in the shank that raises the platform 2-1/2 inches from the top of the receiver. You will have 13-1/2 inches between the ground and this cargo carrier when it is mounted and the cargo carrier will extend approximately 31-1/2 inches from the back of your vehicle.

It is difficult to say if this cargo carrier will be too wide for your vehicle because it is really going to depend on how deep the dips are on your gravel driveway. Another concern would be if you have a steep incline on your driveway.
