The underside of the Solera Smart Arm 12V Power RV Awning # LC517505 that you referenced is black. Normally black does get hot but that's only if the color is seeing direct sunlight. Since it's the underside of the fabric it would not see sunlight so the color would not affect the temperature at all. The black will reflect less light from the ground back up which keeps the shade feeling a bit darker under the awning.
