Transmission Cooler For 2014 Honda CR-V AWD EX For Towing Trailer Across Country

I am planning to move across country 1500ish miles in the coming weeks in my 2014 Honda CR-V AWD EX. I plan to tow a 4x8ft Uhaul cargo trailer full of my stuff. Empty it weights 850, and I have about 500 pounds of stuff I will be putting in it for a total of around 1350lbs. I am all set in terms of Towing Hitch, Harness, mount, and ball. My question is this: Is there anything else I can install like a transmission or engine cooler in order to maximize my vehicles performance and/or minimize the wear and tear that this trip will put on my car? I appreciate your help.

A transmission cooler will definitely help to prolong the life of your transmission and decrease the wear on your 2014 Honda CR-V while towing the utility trailer. I recommend to use the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets part # D13502 which is a popular option because of it's flat plate and fin design that allows the fluid to cool faster. Transmission coolers lower the operating temperature of the oil by up to 60 degree which can double both the life of the transmission when you tow.

The ideal location of a transmission cooler is the in front of the radiator to allow the cooler to work more efficiently. We were able to fit this particular transmission cooler in front of the radiator on a 2009 Honda CR-V. I have attached the installation video for your reference. I have also attached the dimensions of the cooler so you can compare the space in front of your radiator on the 2014 Honda CR-V however I am sure it is the same. I have attached a very helpful article explaining more about transmission coolers.

You may also consider using Curt Friction Sway Control arms part # 17200 to help correct some of the sway while towing the utility trailer to you may experience on the highway when a Semi passes or there is a sudden gust of wind.
