Using Tow ReadyTow Light Kit, # 73864, with a Tow Dolly Already Connected to RV Trailer Connector

I think these lights are what I am looking for, but I have a question about how to connect them. I will be towing a 2009 Prius on a Roadmaster tow dolly behind my motorhome. I have installed a Tekonsha P3 brake controller in the mh as the tow dolly has electric brakes. The tow dolly connects electrically to the mh at the 7 pin socket in back next to the hitch. Since the mh socket is used by the tow dolly, how do you suggest I connect these towing lights, splice in a four pole connector to the tow dolly wiring? A second question is that do these lights have turn signal, brake light, and running light functions?

Expert Reply:

The Roadmaster Tow Dolly with electric brakes, # RM-2050-1, also already has lights on it which is why they did not provide an additional socket for lights. It also has a 4-Way flat trailer connector with extra blue wire for the electric brakes and not a 7-Way.

Since your RV has a 7-Way, what I recommend is to change the connector on the tow dolly to a 7-Way, # PK12706, and then you can use the Hopkins mutli-tow adapter, # HM47570. This connector will allow you to plug in the 4-Way on the Tow Ready Mount Tow Light Kit, # 73864 and the tow dolly connector. But you have to consult the RV owners manual to determine if it can handle the power draw from tow dolly and the lights.

The lights in the Tow Ready Tow Light Kit have combined stop and turn signal functions and running light functions.
