Trailer Hitch, Wiring, and towing Accessories for a 2011 Toyota Venza

Interested in the light weight Draw-tite hitch for 2011 Toyota Venza. Dealer told my my Venza was not capable of receiving tow package. My concern is if wiring package will mount to all Venzas? My car as is has tow capacity of 1000lbs.

What the dealer most likely meant is that the Toyota Venza does not come with a factory tow package and thus there are no official tow package parts made for it that are OEM. You can still install a trailer hitch and wiring in your 2011 Venza.

The Draw-Tite Hitch, # 36512, that you referenced is a good choice. Even though the hitch has a gross trailer weight capacity of 3,500 pounds, you must still go by the owners manual for the towing capacity of the vehicle and go by it. If that is 1,000 pounds then you can only tow up to 1,000 pounds.

You will also need a ball mount, # 36061 and pin and clip # PC2. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch ball use # 19258.

The wiring harness, # 118482, will also fit your car. The harness plugs in line with the vehicle tail lights to provide the brake, turn, and tail light signals for the trailer lights, but the trailer lights will actually be powered by the vehicle battery. This protects the vehicle electrical system. I have included some links that explain installation.

Toyota often times also states in the owners manual that a transmission cooler and power steering cooler are required when towing with the vehicle. Coolers are not vehicle specific so we recommend going with the largest coolers that will fit in the engine compartment of the vehicle.

The most popular transmission cooler is # D13503 and the most popular power steering cooler is # D13200. I have included some informational links on transmission coolers for you as well.
