There are a couple of different options for you to carry skis on your 2018 Mazda CX-5 with a bare roof, but the Inno Dual Angle Ski Rack you asked about would not work as it uses fixed mounting points, which your Mazda without any type of rails does not have. If you were looking to avoid a roof rack altogether you will need the SeaSucker Ski and Snowboard Carrier - Vacuum Cup Mounted - 8 Skis or 4 Snowboards # 298-SK2420.

The SeaSucker rack strongly grips your roof with vacuum cups. The vacuum mount is extremely secure, and you can see that demonstrated in the linked video I added called "SeaSucker Pops a Wheelie" which I highly recommend checking out. The SeaSucker Ski Rack # 298-SK2420 is simple to use, and you only need to press the pump on the vacuum cups a few times and it is completely sealed. This is the most convenient, easiest way for you to carry skis. I have added a photo a customer sent in showing this rack installed so you can see an example of how it works.

The only other option you have is to add a roof rack and then a ski rack to your Mazda, and while you mentioned wanting to avoid an OEM rack, the aftermarket racks are much stronger and higher quality. I recommend the Inno Roof Rack which consists of Inno Aero Crossbars # INXB130-138, Inno Through Feet # INXS250, and Custom Fit Kit # INK497 as this is the most cost-effective but still quality rack that fits your 2018 Mazda CX-5. You would then need a separate ski rack, and I recommend the Rhino-Rack Ski and Snowboard Carrier - Locking - 6 Skis or 4 Boards # RR576 for it's reliability and included locking system that keeps the rack - and your skis - secure to your roof.

I have added links to video reviews of these parts for you to check out as well.
