Best Trailer Wiring Harness for 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC300

Hi, I am planning to purchase the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2 inch # 13290 for my 2016 Mercedes GLC300. So far from looking on your site, I am debating between the Tekonsha #119250 and the Curt #56146 wiring harness note: I also saw Tekonsha #119190 mentioned in one of the QandA responses. I will only be towing my ATV up to the cottage once in the spring and back home in the fall. What would be the pros to buying the Tekonsha and the cons to buying the Curt? I am trying to get a good perspective due to the significant difference in cost. Lastly, I saw that the Curt #56146 specifically says excluding models with Premium 3 Pkg Trailer Wiring. Do you know what this means and what options it is referring to? I have no idea if my car has this package sorry, Im sadly not a car chick. Thanks in advance,

For your 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 I actually recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118747 for a couple of reasons.

The core function for this Tekonsha T-One # 118747 and the Curt # C56496 (which is what replaced the Curt 56146 you mentioned) or the Tekonsha # 119250KIT is the same, meaning that all of them will provide you with a 4-Way connector to connect with and power a trailer's basic signal lights. The installation process however differs greatly between the kits.

The Tekonsha T-One # 118747 is a custom harness designed specifically for your Mercedes. It's going to plug right into existing ports that are located behind the trim panels in the cargo area on the driver and passenger side. The only non plug-and-play connection you have to make is running the power wire up to the battery under the hood, although this still doesn't require any wire splicing.

Both the Curt and Tekonsha harnesses that you mentioned are universal kits. They won't plug into anything on your vehicle and instead require you to locate and connect to factory wiring behind the tail lights. This leads to a longer install process where you will be testing and/or cutting factory wires on the vehicle.

I have attached the written install instructions for the Tekonsha T-One # 118747 that you can check out as well.

Both the Tekonsha and Curt harnesses are actually not compatible if the Mercedes is equipped with the Premium 3 Package. Based on my research this package consists of various upgrades such as a steering/distance pilot and active brake assist. My best recommendation to verify whether or not you have this is to simply contact your local Mercedes dealer with your VIN. They should be able to tell you this using that number.
