Will 25,000 lb Pro Series 5th Wheel Hitch Have Slight Opening in Jaws

Question:

2014 5 the wheel Forest River wildcat 31 ft. The dual claws on my 25k pro series 5th wheel hitch lacks about 1/2 inch closing completely around my 2 inch kingpin. The latch closes. Is that a normal opening or should it be closed.

Trailer hitches are going to have different jaws depending on the quality of the hitch, and the Pro Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - 25,000 lbs # 30862 has what is considered to be a standard double jaw, which is going to have a slight opening and not wrap completely around the king pin. This is considered an economical or entry-level 5th wheel hitch that is going to have rattling, chucking and jarring when you are towing. When you decide to upgrade you are going to want to go with something that has a stronger jaw system such as the Curt A25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16180.

I have added a link to our selection of 5th wheel hitches for you to check out, or if you let me know the year, make, model and bed size of your truck I would be able to make a recommendation for you.
