Troubleshooting Bounce at Front of Tow Vehicle with Husky Weight Distribution System

Question:

I have a 2018 Buick Enclave with a factory installed tow package. My max tow capacity is 5000. I bought a camper that is 3832 pounds dry with a 521 tongue weight. The front of my car was bouncing up and down with a 3200 lb camper with a Husky Center Line TS. Rated for 400-600 lbs.

It sounds like your existing Husky Center Line Weight Distribution System # HT32215 either just needs to be adjusted a bit more or its 400 to 600 pound tongue weight capacity is actually a bit under-rated for your setup. The bounce you're experiencing during travel is likely the result of the front of the Enclave sitting higher than the rear with the trailer connected.

If you notice that the rear fender of your Enclave is sitting lower than the front fender with the trailer attached then you will want to try to raise the lift brackets up a hole or add a washer under the large head tilt pin on the head assembly. With everything adjusted and set up properly you should have a level truck from front to back with the trailer hooked up.

If this doesn't help then you will need to make sure the system is properly rated. It's important to keep in mind that your total tongue weight includes both the loaded tongue weight of the trailer along with any added cargo weight coming from behind the rear axle of your Enclave. Since the 521 pound tongue weight you mentioned is with the trailer empty, this number very well could be exceeding the system's 600 pound capacity when factoring in loaded cargo to the trailer and added gear to the rear of the vehicle.

If you find this to be the case you can simply swap out the existing spring bars on your system with the higher-rated # HT32330. This will essentially convert the system so that it has a 600 to 800 pound tongue weight limit instead. It includes one bar so you would need to purchase two to complete the setup.
