Replacement High-Speed Tires for 4.80-12 Tires on Boat Trailer

Hello, I have two tires and possibly rims to replace on a small boat trailer. The tires on it now are 4.80 -12 but labeled as High Speed Trailer Tire.. Is there also a speed rating on these tires OR is the label high speed an indicator of this rating? Questioned another on-line vendor whos tires do not have this label on the sidewall and was told they are rated for 65MPH, but dont know if/how to tell what the existing tires are rated at other than high speed and dont know what that means exactly. Can you help me? Thanks

The term "high-speed" tires on the sidewall really isn't a good indicator of the speed rating for your current tires because manufacturers have been changing (increasing) the safe speed for tires in the recent past. So if your tires are old enough then they could be rated for 65 mph which used to be known as fast.

Since you are looking to replace your current tires and you are looking into options that are rated for higher speeds I recommend using the Taskmaster 4.80-12 Bias Trailer Tire # TTWSF48012C. This has a load range of C (990 lbs at 90 psi) and a speed rating "M" which means the max speed is 81 mph.

If you do decide to replace the rims as well then we do have this tire mounted on a wheel with a 4 on 4" bolt pattern as part # TTWAA12WS or a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern as part # TTWAS12B45WSHP. These are steel wheels with a powder coat finish so if you're wanting something with the better galvanized finish for water applications I recommend part # AM20124 for the 4 on 4" bolt pattern or part # AM20134 for the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern.

I have attached a review video for the tire for you to check out.
