Will HaulGauge Tongue Weight Scale Work on Motorhome and How Does It Receive Information

Question:

Would the HaulGauge also work for a motorhome towing a vehicle? How does it determine curb weight? Is that encoded by the VIN for the individual vehicle? My toad is approximately 200 pounds heavier, as weighed on a CAT scale, than the publicly published curb weight. Some of that is accounted for by the addition of a Blue Ox base plate, the towing pins, and some of the weight of the tow bar, but certainly not all of it. In other words, a source of truth would be needed for actual curb weight. Where does HaulGauge get that information?

Yes, the HaulGauge Mobile Tongue Weight and Payload Scale # HG103 will work on a motorhome that's towing a vehicle. This unit plugs into the vehicle's OBD II port and does indeed gather information based on its VIN. With that being said you can also manually calibrate the system if the vehicle you are using it on is equipped with aftermarket components that affect the stock numbers or if you simply know that the listed stock numbers aren't quite accurate for whatever reason.

The system can also be calibrated to work on older vehicles or uncommon chassis that the HaulGauge might not be able to calibrate to automatically using the VIN.

I have attached a short video demonstration on this product that you can also check out.
