Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack for 2005 Acura TSX

My car is a 2005 Acura TSX. The only hitch I can find is a 1.25inch Class I. The Saris bike rack I am considering 2 bike says to use a 1.25inch Class 2. And Curt says I need a stabilizing strap. What should I do?

You have some really good options for a high-quality bike rack, though you are right that the only hitch that fits your 2005 Acura TSX is the Class I Curt Hitch # C11455. This is important because you need to use Class I accessories with a Class I trailer hitch for the proper fit.

Saris makes superb bike racks so you have good taste in racks. You can still use a Saris but it just needs to be one that is Class I compatible, and for that I recommend the Saris Freedom EX 2 Bike Platform Rack # SA4412F because it is easy to handle, weighing only 27 lbs, but still 60 lb per bike capacity. The Freedom EX also has a 4 rise in its shank, which is great for your '05 Acura TSX that sits relatively low to the ground. The rack also has included hitch and cable locks to secure the rack to your hitch and your bikes to the rack, protecting your investment.

For an economical option I recommend the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2 Bike Platform Rack # HR200Z which also has a rise in its shank for ground clearance, and has locks for the rack as well as your bikes. The Trail Rider has a 45 lb per bike weight capacity, which is 15 lbs less than the Freedom EX, and the Trail Rider uses ratcheting hooks and wheel cradles which are not as easy to use or as high-quality as those of the Freedom.

Also, in regards to stabilizing straps, you will need to use the Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap # 18050 with either the Saris Freedom EX # SA4412F or Hollywood Racks Trail Rider # HR200Z if you are concerned about the warranty of the Curt Hitch # C11455. If for some reason you needed to warranty the hitch you would need to have been using the strap. It is a good idea to do so anyway just for the added stability, and it is easy to use, as you can see by the video review of the strap I linked.

I also linked video reviews of both bike racks for you to take a look at.
