Solution to Easily Drop Tailgate on Truck with Hitch Mounted Load Extender

Question:

Id like to get the Thule Goal Post Rack, but I noticed in assembly videos that they screw in an M12 bolt to affix the bottom part of the rack to the hitch. I need to get into the bed of my truck, which has a cap on it, frequently. I dont want to carry a socket set and have to unbolt the rack every time it isnt in use. Isnt there some sort of quick-release pin that can be used in lieu of bolting the rack to the receiver? Will the Thule Snug-Tire Hitch Lock work in this capacity? Other? Regular ball hitch pin? Please advise. Thank you!

The Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock # THSTL2 is indeed compatible with the Thule Goalpost Hitch Mounted Load Bar # TH997 that you referenced. This will do a great job of helping to deter theft but it won't necessarily ease the install/removal process since it will still require a tool to properly tighten down the bolt and loosen it up when it's time to take out the Goalpost.

There isn't another hitch pin solution available that will quicken up this process with the Thule Goalpost Load Bar.

A better option for your application might be with the Yakima LongArm Truck Bed Load Extender # Y01149. This is because the vertical load bar can be tilted away from the truck to both allow for larger loads inside the bed and the ability to open the tailgate without actually removing it (see attached image).

This load extender features a 300 pound weight capacity and includes the same type of anti-rattle threaded hitch pin as the Thule model. You can add the Yakima HitchLock # Y07235 to help secure your investment.
