Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for Chevy Silverado Crew Cab 4x4 Short Bed

I was interested to find the Q-A addressing this subject question-21350 because Im in pretty much the same situation. The only reason I bring it up again is that we are looking specifically at a crew-cab 4X4, and Ive been told that a full length bed crew cab is just way too long for convenient daily use, especially when moving around in city is required. Would appreciate your take on that aspect.

An 8 foot bed is always more ideal for towing clearances with a standard 5th wheel hitch, but a short bed is definitely more ideal for daily driving. The short bed trucks are more and more popular and the market for sliding 5th wheel hitches or rotating pin boxes has grown due to it.

I wouldn't hesitate to get the 6-1/2 foot bed with your Silverado HD Crew Cab 4x4. There are a couple of other things to consider. I do recommend getting the factory prep pucks in your truck and then I recommend the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3770 for a manual sliding hitch compatible with any standard or air ride pin box. If you want to upgrade to an automatic sliding hitch, then I recommend the Demco adapter # DM6194 and the Demco Hijacker Autoslide # DM8550035. This hitch will automatically slide to give you the turning clearances needed so you don't need to jump in and out of your truck to move between locking slider positions.

If you have a Sidewinder, Revolution, Turning Point or similar pin box, then you can use a fixed mounted hitch like # BWRVK3700 or # BWRVK3705 for the best quality hitch that will work well with the factory pucks.
