Troubleshooting 6 Volt 1953 Ford Sedan Towing Newer 12V Travel Trailer with Electric Brakes

Question:

6 volt vehicle 1953 Ford sedan pulling somewhat newer travel trailer with 12 volt brakes Is there any way to do this, or would I have to convert the trailer to 6 volt brakes? If conversion is necessary, can I get 6 volt brakes anymore? Thank you.

There are not 6V trailer brakes, so you would need to upgrade the power to 12V for the trailer. To keep your 6 volt vehicle unchanged for the motor and electronics, I recommend running a wire # 10-1-1 from your 6V battery thru the Tekonsha 30 Amp Circuit Breaker # 7012A to a 12V battery. This will slowly charge the 12V battery so you won't have trailer functions that deplete over time but will give you the 12V power you need.

You will first need to use the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT to capture your brake and turn signal wiring for your trailer and get the power for this from that separate 12V battery. This harness uses zero contact interface sensors to capture the signal without splicing wires. Then you will run the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 12 Gauge Wires # ETBC7L from that 12V battery and connect the 4 way from the ZCI harness.

Finally you can use the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller - Wireless - 1 to 2 Axles - Proportional # C51180 at that 7-way to control your electric brakes without any other wiring in the vehicle required.
