Can 2018 GMC Sierra 3500 Crew Cab Tow Trailer that Weighs 16,450 lb

Question:

Hi there, I am new to the towing world so I thought you guys could help. I am looking at a impact toy hauler with a 2450 dry hitch weight, 11443 dry weight, and 16450 gvwr. My trucks payload on the door sticker says 3537, with a max 5 th wheel tow rating of 17200. I have my wife and my dog thats about it. I also was wondering if by putting the weight in the rear of the toy hauler it would counterbalance and take off some of the weight? Thank you for your help, just trying to tow safely.

Payload is the capacity basically of the truck bed whereas the towing capacity will be higher than that since a fifth wheel hitch attaches directly to the truck frame through the bed. Since your 2018 GMC Sierra 3500 has a towing capacity of 17,200 lbs it would easily tow your trailer that would weigh a max of 16,450 lbs.

Since your truck has a long bed you can use a stationary hitch and not need a slider hitch for turning clearance. For that you can use the B and W Companion hitch part # BWRVK3500 with the Turnoverball hitch part # BWGNRK1016 and you'd have a 20k fifth wheel hitch setup that is considered by most to be the nicest on the market! People love the Companion hitches because they are easy to use, made in the USA, and very reliable. I attached a review video for more info as well.
