Which 4-Way to 7-Way Trailer Wiring Adapter Allows Trailer Battery Charge Circuit to Activate

Question:

We have a 2018 Subaru Outback Tow Vehicle and a NuCamp [email protected] Max tear camper with a battery. Currently have the Subaru Factory 1 1/4 hitch and 4 pin installed but need to add brake controller and 7 pin. The description for the 7 Way Upgrade Kit states 12 V wire from car battery to the trailer wiring but will it charge the camper battery while plugged into the vehicle? In reading the description it does not appear that it will charge the camper battery.

Since your plan is to install a brake controller and want to charge the camper battery what you need is actually the part # ETBC7. This comes with basically the same things as the # ETBC7L except it also includes wiring and circuit breaker to complete the brake controller circuit that you use for charging the trailer battery.

I attached a video that shows this kit installed on a similar 2011 Subaru Outback for you to check out as well. The brake controller in the video is our best selling Prodigy P3 part # 90195.

Question:

Thank you for your response. I do have a couple follow-up questions regarding using the ETBC7 7 Way RV Upgrade Kit. Is it compatible with the Curt Echo #C51180 Brake Controller? I’m looking at the Curt Echo since it doesn’t have to be mounted inside the vehicle. My 2018 Subaru Outback doesn’t appear to have a good place to mount a brake controller due to all the safety features, buttons and the display. You recommended a Prodigy brake controller. Do you consider this to be better than the Curt Echo?

The Curt Echo # C51180 is really a great solution. I'd recommend it highly for you. The P3 is really nice but the Echo is really convenient and applies the brakes proportionally just like the P3.
