Troubleshooting Curt Venturer Trailer Brake Controller Installation

Hello I installed this unit in 2004 ram 1500 with a curt c57674 trailer plug. BK light stays lit up all the time on trailer plug. Is this a faulty controller C51110 ? Should there be a red or green light on the controller at all times? Only time the green indicator light comes on when manual control is pushed.

The LED test lights on the Curt Adapter # C57674 are very sensitive and can illuminate with even very little power reaching them, including the tiny voltage that brake controllers send out to confirm that the brake circuit is connected. This low-level signal from the controller is a pulsed signal, meaning it continuously goes on and then off, to verify that the brake circuit is intact.

If you have a voltmeter like # BTMT15 you can test the actual voltage at the 7-way's brake circuit. The brake and ground contacts are at the 5:00 and 7:00 positions, respectively, on the 7-way, as shown in the linked photo. If you read 12V on the 7-way brake pin without activating the Venturer manual control or pressing the pedal then the controller is bad.

The Venturer status LED will glow red if a circuit disconnect occurs and flash red if the unit detects a short in your brake circuit. Since your controller status LED displays solid red this tends to suggest a connection issue on the brake circuit. You can check the brake circuit connection at the blue brake wire's butt connector to make certain it is solid.
