Can Bike Rack be Used on Car Being Towed on Dolly

Hi, was hoping you could answer. Couldnt find this in your database. I am towing a 2010 Kia Soul on a Tow Dolly behind a 37foot Forest River Georgetown. I am having to lower the hitch ball about 10inch to accommodate the the tow dolly. I was wondering. Is it legal and will it work, to mount my bikes on a class 1 hitch on my Kia being towed? Thanks so much!

Bike rack manufacturers rate their racks for use behind vehicles, motorhomes or trailers but not on cars that are being flat towed or on tow dollies. I would avoid putting a bike rack on a car that is being hauled on a dolly for many reasons, from issues with the amount of vibration and movement to stability of the rack itself on a car that is not totally level. I cannot comment on legality but I can tell you that it is something that is not a good idea.

A much better option is to use a bike rack that will fit onto your ball mount, the Swagman Traveler XCS - Platform-Style 2 Bike Rack for 2" Ball Mount # S64664; this option will give you a secure way to transport your bikes while you are towing your Kia. I have added a photo which is a good example of how the Swagman rack works.

I have also added a link to a video review of this bike rack for you to check out.
