Do the Bolts in the Oblong Holes Need to be Removed for Draw-Tite Front Hitch 65003 on a 1999 Ram

Question:

I just got back to town yesterday. I have 2 bolts in front that are where the big holes are in the hitch. The bolts have egg shaped washers and touch the frame. Dont know if they should be removed. Going to diesel shop today to check with them. Will send photos ASAP. Thank you

The two bolts you are referring to in the oblong holes on your 1999 Dodge Ram will need to be removed in order to install the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 65003. If you take a look at step 3 in the attached instructions it states, "If present, remove any fastener in the forward attachment hole on vehicle". This is just simply referring to the bolts in the oblong holes that you mentioned. I called my contact at Draw-Tite to confirm this.

Question:

Conner, I could not get the 2 small bolts out met or us bolt sizes did not fit. The diesel shop I go to will install it Jan 31st. Your hitch seems great bolts just to hard to get to on the ground. Will send pictures when done

If you are having trouble removing the two outside bolts then you can apply a penetrating compound or better yet some heat and a pneumatic impact. However, I am sure the shop you are taking the hitch to can do this for you. These bolts will then be replaced with two M12 x 1.75" bolts which are included for you. Please send us any photos you have one it is installed as we would love to show them on our site.
