Generator Recommendation for Powering Atwood Air Command Rooftop RV Air Conditioner w Heat Pump

Question:

Wanting to install rooftop unit in Freightliner MT35 step van that currently doesnt have any ac. Im considering putting a larger alternator, power converter and battery bank to running unit while driving. Then unplug unit when shore power is available or generator. Do you have any recommendations, instructions for this. Additionally what size generator would you recommend to power this unit? any advise would be helpful.

I attached a wiring diagram for the Atwood Air Command AC Unit part # AT15028-22 that you referenced for you to check out. The wattage requirement for this is 4,830 watts for starting so you'd need a generator rated higher than that. For that amount of wattage you'd need a generator setup like the etrailer.com Parallel Generator kit part # 333-0002-2-0007 which can support up to 6,000 watts drawn.

Since your application isn't standard there isn't a set way to recommend the install but I attached a link to an install video for this kit for you to check out as well.
