Recommended Lock Replacement for Old Yakima Rocketbox Due to Discontinued Parts

Question:

Hi, I have a box like the one in this photo and the lid flew open on the freeway. the metal latch at the rear lock broke away with a chunk of the shell that it was riveted to. I planned to repair the shell with an ABS repair kit, but need a replacement metal latch the lock part of the lower shell is still intact. Any thoughts where I can get that? Yakima said they dont have them as thats the old/pre-2006? design. Thanks.

As you stated, Yakima does not make that part anymore, so I don't have a direct fit option.

My recommendation to replace it is to install the Replacement Lock Core and Key for SportRack Explorer Cargo Box - Qty 1 # SR03807 along with the Replacement Bottom Lock Bracket # SR00841 and Replacement Lock Locator # TH03808. This will require a slightly different mounting but will also give you the security and structure you are now missing. I recommend placing it directly behind the broken part of the shell where the structure is still in tact instead of in the reattached location.
