Troubleshooting Brake Controller Power Wire on 2000 Chevy 1500 with Tow Package

With no power to the black power wire on your brake controller, I recommend starting with your owners manual to see if there is a 12V fuse that could be the issue. I've attached an article to assist. If the fuse isn't the issue, then you can use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to probe that wire every few feet as you trace it for a short. Replace wire as needed with # 10-1-1 sold by the foot.

If you want to bypass this, you can run the # 10-1-1 wire from the positive battery terminal, to a 30 amp circuit breaker like # PK54530 and then to that black wire on your brake controller.
