When it comes to choosing the best 5th wheel hitch everybody has a subjective opinion based on their experience and the experience of people they know or have spoken with. Most 5th wheel hitch manufacturers have good/better/best choices so if someone were to use a good option from Curt but a better option from Reese (or vice versa) that would influence their opinion.

For example, when you input your 2012 Ram 3500 into our fitguide the first couple of options that pop up are from Curt which just means that for the people who come to our website who own a 2012 Ram 3500 these are their preference. We typically recommend going with Reese 5th wheel hitches because they tend to have less restrictions when it comes to special pin boxes (like a Revolution or Sidewinder) but I can say confidently that as long as you are using a Curt hitch within the listed capacities it will work well and be just as safe as a Reese 5th wheel hitch.

If you would like to go with a Reese 5th wheel hitch then I recommend the part # RP30033 which has a 22K weight capacity, a 4-Way pivoting head, 2-jaw locking system, and a solid, 1-piece base assembly for increased stability. This also includes a 7-Way connector that you can install in the bed of your Ram to make trailer hookup easier.

For a Curt option I recommend the A25 # C16180 which has a 25K weight capacity, a fully articulating head (similar to the 4-Way pivoting head), interlocking 2-jaw system, 2 built-in zerk fittings for easy lubrication, and a fast 1-pin head removal. I have attached review videos for both hitches that you can check out.

Question:

What other components do I need to buy with the Reese 5th wheel hitch # RP30033?

If you go with the Reese # RP30033 then all you need is the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit # RP50140-58. This provides you with attachment points for the 5th wheel hitch and stay permanently in the bed of your Ram 3500.

For a setup that allows you to have a clean bed when the 5th wheel hitch is removed you can install the Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit # RP30074 and then use the Rail Adapter # RP30156. The adapter is rated for 20K so you will be limited by that as opposed to the 22K of your 5th wheel hitch.

Some review videos have been linked for you to reference.
