Hub For Trailer With 14” Wheels & 5 on 4 1/2” Bolt Pattern

My flatbed Zeiman trailer has 14” wheels with a 5 on 4 1/2” pattern, how do I tell what the capacity is on the axle so I can purchase the appropriate hubs?

Expert Reply:

Your Zeiman trailer may have a plate or sticker on it that will list the VIN number. The weight rating of the axle should be listed on that same plate or sticker. Also, the axle could have a tag or plate on it that will list the weight capacity.

You can also tell the weight capacity of the axle by measuring the diameter of the axle. Here is a list that will show the axle weight capacity based on the axle diameter:

Typical Axle Diameters Based on Axle Capacity
1,000-lb - 2,000-lb Axles: 1-1/2 inch - 1-3/4 inch diameter
3,500-lb Axles: 2-3/8 inch diameter
6,000-lb - 7,200-lb Axles: 3 inch diameter
8,000-lb Axles: 3-1/2 inch diameter
9,000-lb Axles: 4 inch diameter
10,000-lb Or more axles: 5 inch diameter

With your flatbed Zeiman trailer having 14" wheels with a 5 on 4 1/2” bolt pattern, you most likely have 3500 lbs axles. These measurements will correspond to you needing a hub like # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K. This hub is for electric or hydraulic brakes that fit 3,500-lb E-Z Lube axles. It has Inner bearing (L68149) and race, outer bearing (L44649) and race, grease seal, grease cap, and lug nuts included.

It is best to double check to make sure your assembly has the same bearing that are included in this kit.

The best way to find out if the axle, spindle, or hub or drum you have matches up, is to use a digital caliper like # PTW80157 and take some measurements of your spindle for me. If you are able to get the bearing numbers that are printed on the outside of the inner and outer bearing of each hub, I can also help from those numbers. Getting you the right bearing sizes is extremely important for your trailer to function properly. Please see picture for assistance.

If the measurements and inner and outer bearing number match up then # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K is the correct product. If the measurement and numbers do not match up, let me know.
