Are the 16K Reese Goose Box and 20K Reese Goose Box Different Sizes

Question:

Had 2017 camper with 20000 # goosebox. Bought 2018 same camper with 16000# goosebox per sales person advise. Having trouble bending in cab of pickup, pretty bad. Would like to know if there is any difference in length or mounting height in the two. I can’t find all dememtions on line. Thanks

The Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter part # RP94716 for 16,000 lbs or part # RP85FR for 20,000 lbs have the exact same overall dimensions. The 20,000 lb model has extra internal bracing to give it more strength. They are also both designed to replace the same pin boxes which is a Lippert 1621, 1621HD, and 0719.

With that being said there are adjustments that can be made at the mounting location for the pin box so it is possible that a different set of holes was used, giving the impression that they are different sizes.

Question:

Thank u so much for the information. Now can u tell me how to fix the problem of denting the back of cab of my truck from here.? Can I goosebox to set camper higher ? Do u make something to off set the point of hookup to move the goosebox back in the truck bed? The camper people who installed this for us when we bought the camper seem to think it’s our problem. We seem to think they should have know this wouldn’t work before we ruined the cab of a 70,000.00 truck?? Please help us fix this problem. We have spent another 1,000.00 dollars on a ball offset that gained us only 3 1/2”. Not enough.

If you are having clearance issues between the nose of your trailer and cab of your truck while using the Reese Goose Box, you can use an offset hitch ball like part # 19308 which will move the connection point 5" rearward. However, this particular offset ball only works with Bulldog, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, and Reese hitches. If you have a different gooseneck hitch then please let me know what that is so I can make sure you get the correct one. If an offset hitch ball does not provide the proper turning clearance then you would want to remove the Reese Goose Box and install the original pin box back on the trailer along with a sliding 5th wheel hitch. In order to make sure you get the correct 5th wheel hitch I would need to know the year, make, model, and bed size of your tow vehicle.

There are vertical adjustments that you can make with the Reese Goose Box which can be done by using the lowermost set of bolt holes on the trailer's mounting brackets but this will not help the clearance issues between the nose of your trailer and cab of your truck. It sounds like you have a short bed which is why you are running into issues. The Reese Goose Box is simply not designed to work with most trucks that have a bed shorter than 8' long therefore you will want to consider a standard pin box and sliding 5th wheel hitch. This will however require you to remove the gooseneck hitch you have unless it is a B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch but there will simply be no other options to gain turning clearance with the Reese Goose Box.
