Derale Remote-Positioned Transmission Cooler for 2012 Chevrolet Suburban 5.3L 4WD

Question:

I have a 2012 chevy suburban with the 5.3l and 4wd. I want to tow my camper and it appears I do not have a transmission cooler other than the stock one integrated into my radiator. I would like the best option and installation kit etc. Can you point me in the right direction please

A supplementary transmission cooler is an excellent addition to almost any towing vehicle and we have options for your 2012 Chevrolet Suburban 5.3L.

If you have the specific transmission model 4L80E in your Suburban you can use pan-style cooler # D14207 from Derale. The benefit of a bolt-on pan cooler is that you actually add fluid capacity to your transmission system. This item does not simply radiate away heat like # D13503; it both radiates heat away and cools additionally by letting more fluid come into contact with the hot transmission surfaces.

If you do not have this transmission, or if you want the absolute most cooling power, then the recommended cooler is the remote-positioned Hyper-Cool # D13960. My tech contact at Derale confirmed its fit on the 5.3L.

The main benefit of a remote fan-powered cooler like the Hyper-Cool is that is will cool your transmission fluid independent of your driving speed. Pan and radiator style coolers rely on passive air flow as you drive to cool the transmission. The Hyper-Cool has a 500-CFM fan that operates with the included thermostat to cool your transmission even if you are climbing hills at low speed. Passive coolers cool less well at low speeds but the Hyper-Cool will always maintain your transmission at a safe temperature regardless of driving speed.

The other benefit of a remote fan-powered cooler is that you can mount it pretty much wherever you like since passive air flow is not a consideration for this type of cooler.
