Is Pilot Brake Controller Compatible With 2018 Ram 1500

I have a 2018 Ram 1500, and installed a Reese Towpower Pilot brake controller using a Tekonsha harness. The trailer brakes are not activating when I press the brake pedal, they only work with the slide. However, after I press the slide, the brake pedal will activate the trailer brakes. Once I let off the pedal and press it again, they won’t activate again...I have to tap the slide and then press the brake pedal. I believe the controller is getting the signal from the vehicle because when there is no trailer attached and I press the brakes pedal, the little dot comes on on the brake controller, and will continue to light up each time I press the brake pedal. I’m lost.

I reached out to the manufacturer of the Pilot 2-6 Brake Electronic Brake Controller # 80550. They just advised me that the Pilot # 80550 will not work on a 2018 Ram. The reason why is because the brake light signal circuit only outputs 4 to 6 volts (the Ram requires a controller that can output at least 12 volts) which isn't enough for the brake controller to function properly.

As an alternative, the Curt Venturer Trailer Brake Controller # C51110 will work for the 2018 Ram 1500. You will need Curt Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers # C51458 to connect it. Just like the # 80550 it is a time delayed brake controller and can operate up to 6 brake applications.
