Does Husky Center Line Weight Distribution System Allow for Backing Up?

Question:

Hi, Can you back up your trailer with this hitch? HT32218. Most of the hitches with built in sway control say you can back up, this model, I dont see that. OR can you recommend a good WDH for an F250 towing 7,000 trailer? thank you.

Yes, you can back-up with the Husky Center Line Weight Distribution # HT32218 attached. This model may work for you so long as its tongue weight range of 800 lbs to 1,200 lbs is the right range for your needs.

To determine this you will need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your F-250. The tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's GVWR but you'll want to verify it by using a scale such as the Sherline # 5780 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you.

From there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your vehicle and you'll have your TTW. The ideal system would be one in which your TTW would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity. So if the 7,000 lbs you referenced is the weight of your loaded trailer, your tongue weight would be in the 850 lbs - 900 lbs range and as long as you had no more than roughly 200 lbs of cargo behind your F-250's axle this system will work for you.

Question:

Another question for you. So my previously mentioned travel trailer is 7k I also have a 11,000 lb boat with a pole tongue. I see you have the pole tongue adaptors. What is the least expensive way to be able to tow both trailers with the same hitch? Equalizer with 2 different sets of bars? Thanks

For the large tongue weights, there isn't going to be a relatively inexpensive way to tow both trailers with the same hitch. The best way for you to do this is by using the Equal-i-zer system set-up because it will potentially allow you to use a pole tongue adapter and upgrade with additional .

Assuming your total tongue weight for your travel trailer is in the 1,000 lb range you could use the Equal-i-zer # EQ37120ET, which has a 800 lbs - 1,200 lbs tongue weight capacity. Keeping in mind the maximum tongue weight capacity for a pole tongue adapter is 1,400 lbs you would need Pole-Tongue Adapter for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems # EQ95-01-5950 and (again, depending on the total tongue weight of your boat trailer and boat) use the 1,000 lb - 1,400 lb rated Spring Bars for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems # EQ90-01-1499 along with the 1,000 lb - 1,400 lb Replacement Head for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems # EQ90-02-1400.
