How to Convert Hydraulic Disc Brakes to Electric Over Hydraulic Disc Brakes on a Boat Trailer

Question:

Im considering converting the existing Kodiak disc brake system on my tandem axle aluminum boat trailer with torsion bar suspension from surge actuator to electric over hydraulic. I already have an aftermarket Redline controller, approximately 2006 vintage, installed in my Dodge Ram 2500 tow vehicle. The hitch is high enough off the ground that the controller would not be submerged when launching, but I do launch in salt water occasionally and would need an actuator able to withstand a marine environment and being hosed down with fresh water. In this case, what brand/model would be best? All up as measured weight of trailer with boat on it is about 6,500 lbs. The existing surge brake master cylinder needs to be either rebuilt or replaced, so now is a good time the think about converting. Thanks

I have the perfect electric over hydraulic actuator kit for you. For this, I recommend the HydraStar Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator part # HS381-9067. This kit comes with everything you need to make the conversion including electric over hydraulic actuator, breakaway switch, 7-way trailer receptacle, junction box, and all of the other hardware and connectors needed for installation.

The actuator is constructed of an extruded aluminum which features marine grade gaskets and stainless steel hardware. The combination of these materials will do an excellent job of resisting rust and corrosion in both saltwater and freshwater environments. You can absolutely use a hose to clean the components just not a pressure washer as it may damage the seals on the actuator.

I have attached a review video on the above kit for you as well. If you can tell me whether you have a straight tongue or a-frame trailer I would be happy to recommend a replacement coupler for you as well.
