Troubleshooting Blinking OC on Hayes Genesis Brake Controller on 2001 F-350 7.3L

When I first had this Genesis trailer brake installed it worked fine. I let my brother borrow my setup and he destroyed the receptacle. After replacing it my trailer brake controller flashes OC until i connect the trailer. How can I get rid of this? I checked the wiring and the wiring is correct according to the trailer connector. Thank you Blinking OC light 2001 F-350 7.3L

Your Hayes Genesis Trailer Brake Controller # HA81790, has OC flashing which means Open Circuit. This means it is not recognizing a trailer connected and yet is recognizing a draw in power from the controller. This most likely means that the 7-way has some corrosion on the pins that needs cleaning or there is not a solid ground either at the 7-way or back at the brake controller itself.

To clean your 7-way pins, I recommend using some light sand paper. To ensure you have a good ground connection at your 7-way and at your brake controller, make sure the ground wire is connected bare metal to metal without any corrosion or debris. To test your pins and wiring, I recommend using an incandescent circuit tester like # PTW2993. I've attached some articles to help further.
