Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2015 BMW X5 M Sport
Question:
Hello, I have a 2015 BMW x5 M Sport, and my trailer is 3500lbs 450lb tongue weight and has a 2” receiver, I’m wondering what type of hitch you recommend is? I’ve read in some places that you have cut the bumper fascia for this type of bmw, but obviously I would prefer to not do that. Also, should I get a weight distribution hitch? Thank you!

For your 2015 BMW X5 M Sport model, I recommend the Curt Class III Round Tube Receiver Hitch # 13077. This will require fascia trimming but will also allow you to get the maximum towing and tongue weight capacity out of your vehicle as the hitch is rated at 6000 lbs towing and 600 lb tongue weight. This is the only confirmed fit we have for your M model vehicle.
A weight distribution hitch will help with the overall ride of the trailer and will help mitigate sway. I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37060ET. This system is rated for 200 to 600 lbs total tongue weight which includes the loaded trailer tongue weight and any weight behind the rear axle of your BMW. This will be a great system for your application. It comes with a hitch ball, but you will need to use a thin-walled socket like # ALL643216 to install it.
I also recommend the Tekonsha wiring kit # 119250KIT for your vehicle side trailer wiring. This kit will give you a reliable wiring that draws power from your vehicle battery to protect the electronics in your vehicle. I've attached a video of this install to assist.
