Troubleshooting Trailer Connected Error on Hopkins Agility Brake Controller

Installed brake controller on my 1992 GMC sierra c1500 and everything works. My concern is that the led in the lower right hand corner of the display screen is on all the time and from what i have read, this light is only supposed to be on when the trailer is connected. I have installed the same controller on my friends 2002 GMC sierra k2500 hd and used the adapter to connect it to his truck and his has the towing package. His works fine and the light does not come on until you connect the trailer. So does the white ground wire from the controller have to be run down the frame and wired into the ground terminal of the connector to make a complete circuit when the trailer connected?

Since you are getting the LED connection light in the lower right corner of your Hopkins Agility # HM47294 brake controller, the unit is reading a draw on the brake output pin. This is the 5 o'clock location of your 7-way. Sometimes it has to do with a connector that just needs to be cleaned, so I recommend using some sandpaper or steel wool and just cleaning the connections inside your 7-way and then on the plug as well. Even slight corrosion can cause that draw. Then I recommend using dielectric grease # 11755 to keep dirt and moisture off your connections.

If that doesn't solve your issue, then I recommend checking your ground connection to ensure a bare metal to metal connection free of corrosion, rust, and paint. You should not need to run a wire down your frame to find a good connection for your controller, but if your 7-way ground is bad, I do recommend using the frame itself.
