Cargo Carrier With Shank Rise for 2006 Honda Odyssey

I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey and we need to purchase a hitch cargo carrier. The problem is I had to install an after market hitch on the car actually from etrailer and so its pretty low. Which cargo carrier has the greatest shank rise? Ive got conflicting answers from your website Which of these is correct and which is the best solution? Thanks in advance!!

There are a number of cargo carriers with at least 4 inches of rise, but they do have different dimensions and weight capacities; I'll go over the options so you can find what you need in terms of not only rise, but the amount of cargo you want to carry and the size of the carrier you are looking for.

The Surco # 52018F has a 4 inch shank rise and has the most weight capacity at 500 lbs and is the largest carrier among this group, measuring 60" long x 24" wide x 5-1/2" deep. Light kit # 52014 would be needed if your cargo blocks your Odyssey's lights. That would mean you would need a 4-flat connector which you would add to your van with # 118438.

The Rola Dart # 59550 has a 4-1/2 inch shank rise, a weight capacity of 450 lbs and measures 56" long x 23" wide x 4" deep. For a light kit you need # 20174 as well as pigtail harness # 719063.

The Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier # M2205 has the shank with the most rise, 5-1/2", and has a 450 lbs weight capacity with 13.25 cubic feet of storage capacity while measuring 47-1/4" long x 22-3/4" wide x 22" tall. You can add a lockable lid to this with # M2201 and for a storage bag you need # M2202. Light kit # 20174 would work well for this carrier.

A hitch lock will be needed for the Surco and Carpod Carriers, and I recommend using the Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock # 63232. For a cargo bag to use with the Surco or Rola carriers I recommend # 988501, which has straps that will attach to the carrier for a secure fit.

I have added a link to video reviews of these parts for you to take a look to help you make an informed decision on the right cargo carrier for your 2006 Honda Odyssey.
