Parts Needed to Operate Electric Trailer Brakes with 2000 GMC Van with a 4-Way Trailer Connector
Question:
I have a 2000 GMC van with a simple 4-way flat connector. I need to tow a trailer with elec brakes and since I have a few downhills on the route, Id like the trailer brakes to function when I brake the van. Do I need a brake controller for my van? I read a previous answer about using part ETBC7, but is that all I need? Thanks

You are correct that part # ETBC7 is what you need. It converts your current 4-way trailer connector to a 7-way, and also includes everything else you need for all 7 functions to work. You also need a brake controller because without one there won't be any signal sent from the van to engage the trailer's brakes.
I recommend using the Prodigy P3, part # 90195, for your brake controller. It's one of the top on the market because of how reliable and easy to use it is. It has an actual LCD and tells you what's going on instead of just flashing codes that you need to decipher. It can also store up to 5 different settings if you tow multple trailers.
I've linked a video of both parts being installed together on a newer Chevy van, but they're both universal products so the installation is very similar on yours. I've also linked a couple of help articles for you.
