Heating Element for Atwood Water Heater

Question:

I am thinking about installing GC10 4AE Atwood water heater in my old 1986 Fleetwood Southwind Motorhome. Must I use a 1400 watt heating element. Can I install a lower wattage element . Something like 1100 watt

Expert Reply:

The Atwood RV Water Heater # AT94022 you referenced is designed to be used with a 1400 watt heating element # AT92249 and while you could use a lower watt element, it is not recommended, nor is there a lower-rated replacement that is confirmed to fit. Additionally, installing a lower wattage element will almost certainly void the warranty of the # AT94022 so it is something that you will want to avoid doing.
