I spoke with a representative of Curt who confirmed hitch # 13077 would fit your 2016 BMW X5 with the M-Sport package. I've added a link to a video of this hitch being installed on a '16 X5 for you to take a look at. The recommended ball mount for your vehicle is # C45030; for a hitch ball you would need # 63845 for a 2" ball or # 63847 for a 2-5/16" ball. You would also need pin and clip # C21500.

For a brake controller with your 2016 BMW X5, I recommend the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller # C51180. I was unable to verify what wiring came pre-installed in your vehicle, so I recommend contacting your BMW dealer to find out exactly what you have. The complete kit would be to add a 4-way # 119250KIT and Installation Kit # ETBC7L. However, if you already have a 4-way you can simply use 4-Pole to 7-Pole Adapter # 37185, run 10 gauge wire # 10-1-1 via circuit breaker # 9510 to the positive post of your battery. When you find out the exact wiring you do have I'd be happy to give you the specific items you need.
