Replacement Tires Needed for a 3,250 lb Gross Weight Pontoon Boat Trailer

Updated 05/17/2011 | Published 05/16/2011

Question:

I need to replace the tires and wheels on my pontoon boat trailor. Is there an equivalent replacement in a load series D. Its a single axle and the boat and motor is around ~3000# - 3250#. There is also not much clearance with the 6.90x9. Can I go up to a 10 as long as clearance and height is not an issue.

I did some checking and the 6.90x9 trailer tire and wheel are only available in load range C.

It is possible that you could go up to a load range E tire, good for 1,650 lbs each at 90 psi which would be more in line with your gross trailer weight. You would need to determine if there is room for the extra width, 8.4 inches as compared to 6.9 inches and height, 20.4 inches as compared to 20 inches. You will also need to match the bolt pattern for the axle and change the wheel.

You could use the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10 inch Galvanized Wheel, item # AM3H470, that has a 4 on 4 bolt pattern or the same tire with a wheel that has 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern, # AM3H490.

At 1,220 pounds maximum weight capacity the tire you selected, # AM10130, would only be good for a 2,440 lb capacity axle.
