Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights with 2009 VW Passat

Question:

I ordered the wrong trailer wiring kit for my VW Passat on the first go round. I should have ordered the Sedan version and I ordered the Wagon version. I wired the wrong version on my car and had a number of issues with there being no running lights, 1 turn signal working on the left side but on the ride side of the trailer when it was hooked up, no brakes lights, etc. I ordered the correct kit #118562 and when I hooked it up, it corrected the turn signals and brake lights but I still dont have running lights. Using a tester there is no power to the brown wire. I sanded the paint off the metal where ground is mounted in the same area the video shows so I think Im good there. Im baffled why there are no running lights. .

The Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118562 is indeed confirmed to fit your 2009 VW Passat Sedan.

I recommend testing the brown wire on the vehicle harness with a circuit tester like # PTW2993 at two locations. Test the wire going into the converter box from the vehicle. If there is no signal, then we know there is some kind of wiring issue on the vehicle side. If there is signal on the wire going to the converter, then test the wire coming out and to the 4-Way. If there is no signal there, this could indicate that the converter is bad and will need to be replaced.

If it is not the converter, make sure the wire is free of any damage and check again along the wiring to ensure that all connections have been properly made and are complete.

If you are unable to resolve the issue, please let me know and I will be happy to look into this further.
