The error code P.L. on the Prodigy # 90885 trailer brake controller indicates that 12V input power has been interrupted while the brake pedal is pressed. This power is carried on the controller's black wire.
If the controller was hardwired in place this could be caused by a loose connection at the battery, circuit breaker or at the black power wire at the back of the controller. Check all wiring and connections from the controller all the way to the battery, looking for loose or damaged wiring.
If the Prodigy was installed using a quick-connect wiring adapter # 3020-P that plugs in under the dash then unplug this and inspect the metal contact surfaces. Focus on the pins for the black wire which carries the 12V operating power to the controller. Check both ends of the wiring adapter for a bent or corroded metal contact and also inspect the truck's under-dash connector in the same way. Corrosion can be removed with a spray-on electronics contact cleaner.
