How Come Longer Ball Mounts Don't Cut Capacity Like Hitch Extenders

I dont understand how with a hitch extension you have to reduce your tongue weight but you dont have to with #80232 it allows you to keep the same tongue weight. Both systems extend the reach, why does the ball extender not change the capacity.?

Officially the ball mount part # 80232 does not cut any of the hitches capacity due to it's length, but this is a very valid question. The biggest difference is the amount of movement a hitch extender introduces into the setup vs. a longer ball mount. While I can admit the rules of the hitch extender capacity are a bit fuzzy when you compare them to a longer ball mount that very well could be longer than the extender, but it's basically one of those things where a rule had to be made and it paints a pretty broad brush.
