Trailer Hitch for 2013 Nissan Altima Coupe for Use with Hitch Bike Rack

Question:

I am looking at putting a trailer hitch on my 2013 Nissan Altima coupe dual exhaust. I have a 2inch Kuat NV - 4 Bike Platform. It looks like your hitches are only 1.25. Could I use an adapter? What hitch would you recommend? Do you sell an adapter?

The light-duty 1-1/4-inch Class I hitches that we offer for your 2013 Nissan Altima Coupe, Draw-Tite # 24801 and Curt # C11357, are limited to carrying 2 bikes regardless of the bike rack's own bike capacity. This has to do with the hitch; Class I hitches simply cannot handle the load of more than two bikes. Between the two I suggest the Draw-Tite.

While there are hitch adapters like # HTAD that allow installing a 2-inch rack like your Kuat NV into a smaller hitch, these are not a viable solution since all such adapters actually reduce the hitch's rating by 50-percent. This means that either of these 200-lb-rated Class I hitches would then have only a 100-lb capacity.

Since you can carry only two bikes on a hitch rack on this vehicle I suggest hanging on to your Kuat for the long run and selecting a cost-effective Class I rack like the BikeWing # B01311 or # 63120 to use on this vehicle.

The BikeWing offers a great mix of virtues: moderate cost, low 12-lb weight, substantial 80-lb capacity, a foot of clearance from the hitch pin hole and 4-inches of rise in the shank for better ground clearance. With it you might consider the mating hitch lock # SHP2082 and bike cable lock # e98891.
