Recommended Four-Bike Rack That Allows Hatch to Open on 2017 Subaru Outback

Hello, 2017 Outback. looking at the Draw-Tite class III hitch, # 75673, I like it because it sets back a little bit out of sight vs the Curt hitch which is more flush with the bumper. Anyway, with that 5 or 5 1/2-inch pin hole set back, is there a platform rack that can hold up to 4 bikes that when tilted with the bikes on it will clear the rear hatchback opening, and when the rack is folded up not in use, not touch the car? I haven't seen any of the videos that address both of those questions or maybe I'm not looking hard enough, Thanks

There are definitely four-bike platform racks which you can use with the Draw-Tite # 75673 that will alleviate any concerns you have about clearance issues with your 2017 Subaru Outback.

The Kuat NV 2.0, # NV22G-NA22G, is one of our most popular four-bike platform racks due to it's user-friendly features. To address your primary concerns, the rack tilts down to give you access to your Outback's rear storage area via a simple foot lever, and does so even with the bikes loaded. It is also seven inches from the closest part of the rack to the center hitch pin hole when folded up.

The NV 2.0 uses sliding ratcheting straps and padded hooks to secure your bikes by the wheels, and comes included with a hitch lock and retractable cable to secure both the rack and your bikes. It has a capacity of 40 lbs per bike with a distance of 13 inches between bikes, can be converted to a two-bike rack by removing the detachable add-on and even has a built-in repair stand called a Trail Doc should a problem occur with your bikes.

Another option for you would be the Yakima HoldUp, # Y02443-2. It has many of the same features of the Kuat, including the ability to tilt down and having seven inches of clearance when folded up, with an advantage being that it holds 60 lbs per bike instead of 40. The Yakima is a very nice rack which will perform well for you, though for ease of use, the Kuat is the optimal choice.

To help you make a decision, I've added links to review videos which you may find useful.
