How to Determine the Drop Needed for a Ball Mount on a 2017 Ford F-250 to Pull a Husky TS

What size hitch should I run? The top of my ball sits about 3 inches above the tongue of the trailer. Should I increase the size for the receiver as well? My truck has a sleeve for the hitch as I believe right now its a 2 inch straight shank. The pic is with the trailer leveled as well Drop Shank for 2017 F250 Husy TS.

When trying to determine what kind of Rise or Drop you will need to ensure that your towing setup is level there are 2 measurements that you will need to take; one for your hitch height and one for your coupler height.

For your hitch height you will want to make sure that your 2017 Ford F-250 is sitting on level ground and then you want to measure from the bottom of the ground to the top of the receiver opening on your hitch.

To determine your coupler height you will want to make sure your trailer is level and measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler (see attached pictures). If your hitch height is greater then you will need a ball mount with a Drop that equals the difference. If your coupler height is greater then you will need a ball mount with a Rise that equals the difference.

Since I don't know what your hitch height is this is the best way for you to make sure that you get the correct ball mount. I am attaching a link to our selection of fixed ball mounts for you to filter through to select the correct one.

Another great option would be to go with a ball mount that is adjustable like the Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount w/ Built-In Scale # WS6-2. This ball mount has a max 6 inch Drop and a max 7 inch Rise. The thing that sets this ball mount apart from other adjustable mounts is that it has a built-in Tongue Weight (TW) scale to help you make sure that your trailer has the appropriate TW. It comes with a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball rated at 12.5K and a 2 inch hitch ball rated at 8K.

For a more cost-effective solution that doesn't use the scale you can use the Fastway Self-Locking, Adjustable 2-Ball Mount # DTALBM6600 which has the same capacities and ranges just without the scale.
