Recommendation For Carrying A 14 Foot Canoe With A Short Bed Truck

How far can you extend out from your truck with this extension #MT70231? Our truck has a 7foot bed with the tailgate down, a 2inch hitch receiver, and have a 14foot canoe to carry.

The MaxxTow MaxxHaul Truck Bed and Roof Load Extender - 2" Hitches - 350 lbs # MT70231 has an extention length of 53-1/2 inches from center of hitch pin hole to end of extension. This will still give you about 4 feet hanging off the back of the extention with that long a canoe.

You may want to consider using the Darby Extend-A-Truck Kayak Carrier w/ Hitch Mounted Load Extender and Single-Bar Roof Rack # DTA944-968-924 for your 14 foot canoe. This will allow for a more evenly distributed weight and better tie down points for transport.

Either way, I recommend using the Thule Load Strap Cinch Straps w/ Padded Cam Buckles - 9' - 750 lbs - Qty 2 # TH521 to secure your boat and a hitch lock like # e98880 to secure your carrier.
