Transmission Cooler Application For A 2005 Honda CR-V Towing A 1,500 Lb. Camping Trailer
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
I have a 2005 Honda CRV towing a 1500lb. low-profile tear camping trailer. I live in California with mountains and longhauls. Would the D13611 be appropriate or should I install a D13501 or D13502? I have room for a front mount. Thanks.

The Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler, part # D13611, will fit your 2005 Honda CR-V. It is a Class I transmission cooler which means it is designed to be used when towing up to 2,000 lbs. It will work when towing your 1,800 lb. camping trailer. It measures 11 inches wide x 3-7/8 inches tall x 1-1/4 inches deep.
I would recommend the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler, part # D13502. This is a Class II transmission cooler which is rated for towing up to 3,500 lbs. This cooler will work fine for your 1,800 lb. trailer, but will give you a little more range if you decide to tow anything larger. It measures 7/8 inches deep, which is thinner than the # D13611 at 1-1/4 inches deep. The thinner depth might help when finding the most efficient location to install the cooler. The most efficient mounting location for a transmission cooler is between the vehicles grille and the AC condenser core.
The Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler, part # D13501, is the same type of cooler as the # D13502, it is just a little shorter (5-3/4 inches height compared to 7-1/4 inches height).
I am including a link to a FAQ page on transmission coolers and a video link on the Derale # D13502 being installed on a 2006 Honda CR-V.
