Compatibility of Ultra-Fab RV Hitch UF35-946403 on Trailer with 74-Inch I-Beam Frame

Question:

Hello, I have a 2014 Open Range 274RLS Light travel trailer and I am looking for a receiver hitch to mount to the rear of this unit. It has an I-beam frame and the distance between the frame rails is 74. It looks like the UF35-946403 will work for this application. This hitch says it can be used on frame widths form 47-18inch to 77. My biggest concern is that if I extend the side arms out to a width of 74, will there be enough of the side arms still inside the main tube to allow for the bolt to be secured to hold it in place for welding?? I work at a FAB shop, so the welding would not be a problem. I guess if I knew how wide the main frame tube is and how long the side arms are, then I would know how long the tube is inside?? I hope this question makes sense, please call me to discuss if needed. Thank you,

The Ultra-Fab Adjustable RV Trailer Hitch # UF35-946403 will fit your 2014 Open Range travel trailer's I-beam frame so long as your inside frame measurement does not exceed the 77-inch maximum for this weld-on hitch. You should be good to go with this one based on your 74-inch dimension.

Please note that the mating inner/outer cross tubes that allow for width adjustment do not need much material to overlap when bolted together for welding. Most of the load on the hitch will be carried by the side brackets, not that cross tube. The connection points on both sides of the hitch are to be welded, as shown on page 1 of the linked instructions. After welding is complete that bolt comes out.

Please note this Ultra-Fab hitch is rated for 350-lbs of tongue weight (TW) but that the RV's frame also must carry the same rating if you need to use the full 350-lb hitch capacity. This hitch is suitable for use with accessory carriers only, not for towing anything. You can, for example, use a 2-inch RV-rated bike carrier such as the lightweight Let's Go Aero BikeWing # B01311.

For use with this rack we offer hitch lock # SHP2082 and bike cable lock # e98891.
