You will not need to drill any holes when installing the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch, part # 11656, on your 1983 Volkswagen Vanagon. It is a bolt-on application that will attach to the rear tow loops. This hitch has a gross towing weight capacity of 1,500 lbs. and a tongue weight capacity of 150 lbs.

I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Curt trailer hitch.

Some items you may need to complete your Class I towing setup are the Tow Ready 2 Inch Hitch Ball, part # 19258, and the Draw-Tite Wiring, part # 119178KIT.
