Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2002 Chevy Silverado with Factory Hitch
Question:
Hello, I have a 2002 Silverado 2500HD crew cab with the 6.5foot bed. My factory hitch bolted through the bumper ball mount and that rusted out and broke. So I would like to get a receiver hitch that does not rely upon the bumper for strength. The pictures do not show that C15302 mounts to the bumper, but I am concerned that in the information it says that the factory bumper is required. Is this just a clearance issue? I have the factory bumper, but it is not structurally able to support the hitch. Thank you,

For your 2002 Chevy Silverado you will need to go with a hitch that will fit trucks that do have a factory trailer hitch. For that you would want the Draw Tite hitch part # 41944 which will fit your truck once you remove the factory hitch.
This attaches to bumper brackets near the frame but not to the bumper itself.
