Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2015 BMW X5

I wanted to check on what the options for a trailer hitch are for the following vehicle. He has a 2015 BMW X5 Diesel with the M package. Thanks.

We have two options for trailer hitches for a 2015 BMW X5 that will fit all their motor and package options. The options are the Curt Class III 2 inch, # 13077, and the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver Class III - 2 inch, # 75600. Both trailer hitches will require fascia trimming, but will not require any drilling into your frame. Both hitches are very good quality and will hold up very well. I recommend the Draw-Tite option based on the look and the fact that it does not require a stabilization strap like the Curt hitch does, # 18050, for non-trailer loads such as bike racks and cargo carriers. I also like that the Draw-Tite hitch allows for weight distribution where the Curt does not, so it is a more well rounded hitch. I've attached a video of your options.

If you will be towing with this trailer hitch receiver, I recommend using the etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches - 7,500 lbs, # 989900. This will give you two different draw bar options and two different hitch ball options to give you the ability to tow different trailers level. I've attached an article on choosing a ball mount to help.

To add wiring for a trailer connection, I recommend the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT. This wiring it will give you a 4-way flat trailer connection by attaching to wires behind your tail lights and has a modulite that is powered by running a power wire directly from your battery to protect your vehicle's factory wiring. Per the linked instructions, the etrailer brand #e84AR Class III hitch will require trimming a 4 x 2-1/4 inch piece of the bumper fascia away. I've linked to an install video for the #13077 hitch which installs in the same manner.
